With an Air Pegasus 2005 collection already on the books, Rei Kawakubo now has her sights set on another underrated Nike silhouette in the form of the BLACK COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Tennis Classic Pack. Made in collaboration with her BLACK diffusion line, this is the first time that the Japanese fashion house has offered its take on the 1982 silhouette, and as with most CDG renditions, it's a true monochromatic masterpiece.
Unveiled in two color options including "Black" and "White," COMME des GARÇONS' Tennis Classic features a full leather construction that's smooth and sleek to the touch. A minimalist aesthetic that was made popular by tennis icons such as John McEnroe, lines of stitching make their way across the lateral and medial sides, accompanied by Nike's legendary Swoosh. The Beaverton-based sportswear company's logo is also finely debossed onto the suede tongue tags, and underfoot, a subtle texture has been applied to the rubber midsoles, which have been specifically engineered to dominate on the tennis court. To round it all off, the laces are finished in a slick wax, and upgraded with matte black aglets which round off the simple yet sophisticated look and feel.
The BLACK COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Tennis Classic Pack released on October 12, 2023 in Japan while the pairs are now hitting EU retailers in November. The retail price is set at $160.
