Signature athletes are a select group of individuals that were picked particularly to represent the brands in the athlete's field of play. New Balance is ready to stand behind their products and their performance on the tennis court by giving Coco Gauf a rare signature sneaker for the sport.
With Elena Delle Donne debuting her signature sneaker this year, brands have shown that their women signees are not just worth special make-ups of other athletes’ signature sneakers. Nike, in particular, has not handed out signature sneakers to any of their sponsored tennis players, opting for special make-ups of in-line performance tennis shoes. Federer himself only had special colorways of the latest performance tennis sneakers with Nike and had to make a move to an entirely different shoe brand in order to get a signature sneaker. Hopefully, Coco Gauf’s signature sneaker means that there are more signature tennis sneakers on the horizon.
The New Balance Coco CG1 is heavily inspired by the 90s and basketball silhouettes, as the multi-piece upper is complemented by a gradient yellow to pink for the panels around the ankle and heel. The white overlay cage at the midfoot adds the stability and lockdown necessary to keep Gauf’s feet within the midsole and outsole of the sneaker. The tongue starts as a black textile, with the top of the tongue sporting Gauf’s signature printed onto the tag. New Balance’s latest cushioning technology is jammed into the CG1. Fuel cell cushioning is coupled with Energy Arc technology.
The New Balance Coco CG1 White Black Vibrant Apricot is set to release on August 26th, 2022. The sneakers will be released on New Balance online and at select New Balance retailers in unisex sizing for a retail price of $170.
