A limited-edition sneaker celebrating the partnership between adidas and Italian soccer club Como 1907 has been unveiled with a completely new silhouette that draws inspiration from retro adidas classics and Lake Como itself. Announced back in July, the deal between adidas and Como 1907 was one of the worst-kept secrets in soccer. Over a year before, rumors had started circulating about the potential new sponsorship agreement, and this was considered surprising given the storied history of Como 1907.
Regarded as a lower league club for most of their existence, they spent five years in Serie A, Italy's highest division, during the 80s in what was their most successful spell. Recently, the club has been through two bankruptcies, in 2004 and 2016, respectively, before being bought in 2019 by the wealthiest club owners in Italy, billionaire Indonesian brothers Michael Bambang Hartano and Robert Budi Hartono. Since then, predictably, Como 1907 has been on the rise, with them securing promotion to Serie A last season, appointing former Arsenal and Barcelona player Cesc Fabregas as manager after he first came on board as a player and minority stakeholder. Another former Arsenal star, Thierry Henry, is also a minority stakeholder in the club. Now, their signature adidas sneaker is here.
With a clean-looking aesthetic that construes an upper built from cloud white leather, the similarities to classics such as the Stan Smith and Grand Court are clear. Three Stripes branding appear along the midfoot as perforated blue waves reflect the lake's waters. For the heel tab, a hit of blue suede with the club's crest bestowed upon it in white. At the lateral, cursive font declares Semm Cumasch, which translates as We Are Como, a chant often heard on the terraces of the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia during matches. Underfoot is a Cloudfoam cushioned midsole with a white rubber outsole for extra grip.
The Como 1907 x adidas sneaker is set to release on October 19, 2024, exclusively via Como Football's official web store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is €145 (approx $158 USD).
