Known for his strong opinions, pizza reviews, and media empire, Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports has teamed up with The Original Muck Boot Company for a collaboration that perfectly blends style with functionality. This partnership offers a unique spin on the classic Muckster Lite clog, tailored specifically for fans of Barstool Sports and those who enjoy outdoor activities. With previous Muck Boot releases focusing on durability and comfort in rugged conditions, this limited edition collection brings a more casual and playful side to the brand without sacrificing performance.
The Dave Portnoy Collection introduces two exclusive colorways of the Muckster Lite clog, featuring Barstool-themed tokens celebrating Portnoy's iconic ventures. These lightweight clogs are 100% MUCKPROOF, crafted from BioLite foam, offering superior slip-resistant traction and all-day comfort. The one-piece design makes them easy to clean while maintaining the brand's reputation for high-performance outdoor gear. Each pair includes six custom tokens, symbolic of Barstool's most significant moments, adding a personalized touch that makes these clogs a must-have for any fan. Charms include a portrait of his dog, Miss Peaches, a slice of pizza, Nooner branding, and more.
Victoria Hamilton, Sr. Graphic Designer for The Original Muck Boot Company, had her hand in the packaging, stating: "For the box, I took inspiration from the old Astrovan Dave used to sell the first renditions of the Barstool Sports paper out of, and then used that same old newspaper clippings on the tissue paper!"
Sole Retriever also spoke with the Vice President of The Original Muck Boot Company, Chris Lorenzo, who shared some insights on the collaboration. "Muck started sponsoring the Barstool Sports Advisory Podcast, specifically the weather segment, in 2023. From there, we created a great partnership, and after Dave saw the new Muckster Lite Clogs, he wanted to take the partnership to the next level. Thus, over the past nine months, we have worked together to enhance the partnership, the first step being this collaboration."
Chris continued, "The focus of the design was simplicity. Dave wanted to keep it simple with minimal touchpoints that speak to the partnership - we used his signature on the heel of the clog and the Muck logo in the original position and decided on two colorways to start: Cream and Blue. The Cream color was the favorite, and the Barstool colors inspired the Blue. We also worked with Dave to create the Barstool tokens that accessorize the clogs, all of which had meaning to Dave - the Drippy Pizza, Pirate Dog, DDTG, The Barstool Logo, High Noon, and added late was the Famous Miss Peaches. The coolest part of the project was developing the packaging. The Muck team did a great job aiding in the project, with the box being a replica of sorts of Dave’s Astro Van, in which he delivered his first newspapers, along with a print of one of Dave’s original Barstool papers as the tissue paper. Additionally, we included small details on the box with bumper stickers and other subtle messaging."
Finally, Chris teased us with news about future projects, "We are definitely looking to do much more with Dave and Barstool… There may be another release of some sort coming out that has to do with Dave’s Famous Dog (wink, wink) Maybe a Clog version featuring Miss Peaches this fall season."
The Dave Portnoy’s Muck Boot collection will release in August 2024 through Muck Boots and the Barstool Sports Store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $55.
