Dingyun Zhang has carved a notable path in footwear design, having been a key contributor to some of Yeezy's most forward-thinking projects. His experience under Ye, crafting iconic pieces like the Foam RNNR and NSLTD BT, set a solid foundation for his innovative approach to design. With previous successful collaborations with high-profile brands like Marni and Moncler, which captured attention with their distinctive, almost otherworldly designs, Zhang has now teamed up with adidas to reimagine one of its most enduring classics: the Samba.
The Dingyun Zhang x adidas Samba introduces a sophisticated and sleek iteration of the traditional model, employing a mix of suede and patent leather that envelops the shoe in luxurious black tones. The design subtly modifies the classic Samba architecture; a suede panel extends across the t-shaped overlay on the toe, complemented by suede at the vamp and eyestays, while the base layer of patent leather accentuates the structured stitching and iconic Three Stripes. The collaboration's unique touch is evident in the tongue, which features co-branded detailing, and the collar, which sports a puffed finish reminiscent of Zhang's previous high-profile collaborations. This blacked-out theme continues down to the rubber midsole and outsole, maintaining a clean and cohesive look.
The Dingyun Zhang x adidas Samba will release on May 10, 2024, through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. The retail price is yet to be determined.
