Dating back to 1982, the Nike Air Force 1 has become a global icon in the eyes of consumers. Its versatility, simple design, comfort, and variety of colorways offered have made it one of the top-selling sneakers on the market. With this in mind, it only made sense for Nike’s Web3 division, .SWOOSH, to utilize the Bruce Kilgore-designed model in its first collection. Following up on last year's Our Force 1 tournament, .SWOOSH has announced the launch of the Our Force 1 Collection.
Coming housed in one of two Our Force 1 (OF1) boxes, a “Classic Remix” or “New Wave,” .SWOOSH is honoring past, present, and future AF1s. For the Classic Remix box, nostalgic AF1s will be reworked with a futuristic mindset while still celebrating heritage details and covering AF1s released from 1982 to 2006. The New Wave boxes are as .SWOOSH puts it on their blog, “a gateway to a universe of AF1s that you’ve never seen before” and will take inspiration from AF1s released from 2007 onwards. Both boxes are set to include winning pairs from the Our Force 1 Tournament, the Nike archives, and winners from the .SWOOSH Your Force 1 contest.
These creations will initially only be available in a digital format through the .SWOOSH platform, however, in the future, .SWOOSH will introduce utility and benefits for these “unique Nike Virtual Creations.” This includes access to exclusive physical products or experiences, and unlocking more virtual creations.
This sounds exciting, but how will the drop for these OF1 boxes go down? Well, .SWOOSH will host an “airdrop” containing a free digital poster. These poster designs are “reimagination[s] of heritage ads from the OG days” and will be given out to random .SWOOSH members. A select number of posters have been prioritized for members from Nike’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion communities, including those who have attended a .SWOOSH Session in person. April 18th will mark the first date when Nike will begin airdropping AF1 posters, the means to buy an OF1 box.
Once (or if) you receive an OF1 poster, you can participate in the “First Access” sale for the OF1 collection which takes place on May 15. Even if you don’t receive an OF1 poster, a “general access” sale will take place on May 17 and offer the remaining boxes at a later date following the first access. Each box will be priced at $19.82.
Once boxes have been purchased through the first access and general access sales, the “OF1 Reveal” will occur. You can choose to reveal what unique AF1 creation you have secured, though you can keep it sealed if you wish. After this, a marketplace will be open, allowing you to sell/buy pieces from the Our Force 1 collection. Each box comes with a 3D file that can be downloaded and will allow the owner to "express themselves in new ways."
The Nike .SWOOSH Our Force 1 Collection will begin to release on April 18th, 2023 with the first airdrop of posters taking place Those who received a poster will be able to participate in the first access sale on May 15 while the general public has a shot at boxes on May 17. In the future, we should begin to see more and more virtual collections from .SWOOSH and a utilization of these NFTs in the form of "exclusive physical products or experiences."
