New Balance's longstanding affinity with the DMV area shines again as they partner with DTLR, a retailer deeply rooted in the region's urban culture. DTLR's latest collaboration is on the New Balance 2002R, dubbed Purple Noir. Previously, the duo worked on the 9060 to kick off 2024 and crafted a Grinch-inspired 990v4 last year.
The DTLR Exclusive New Balance 2002R Purple Noir offers a sophisticated blend of textures and shades. The upper combines luxurious black suede and soft grey nubuck set against a durable grey mesh base, creating a robust yet visually appealing structure. The sneaker’s standout feature is its iridescent purple accents, reminiscent of iconic Eggplant colorways on Nike Basketball sneakers like the Foamposite One.
These purple highlights embellish the tongue, midfoot, and heel overlay, infusing a vibrant contrast that catches the eye. Additional details include neon green accents lining the tongue, vamp, and the lateral 2002R branding, injecting a dose of boldness into the design. The design is rounded off with a clean white foam midsole featuring splashes of neon green near the heel, and a contrasting grey rubber outsole ensures durability and traction.
The DTLR Exclusive New Balance 2002R Purple Noir will release on May 17, 2024, exclusively via DTLR online and in-store. This drop will be available in adult, grade school, and preschool sizing, with the retail prices set at $165 for adults, $105 for GS, and $95 for PS.
