New Balance has tapped plenty of collaborators over the last few years to work on iconic silhouettes in the brand’s lineup and DTLR has been a mainstay. Plenty of 99X models have been worked on between the two with many taking inspiration from location-based themes, however, the latest link-up between the retailer and footwear label plays off of the classic grey color palette NB is famous for. Tackling another 990v3, DTLR and New Balance’s latest collab gets dressed in a “Greyscale” colorway.
Though early teasers don’t showcase the entire silhouette, we do see the grey and black shade utilized near the toebox and heel. Like many 990v3s, premium suede panels land on the toebox overlays and mudguard with each taking on black and grey shades respectively. Mesh is utilized for the underlay and appears in a lighter grey shade and somewhat matches the cotton laces. Black suede panels along the midfoot allow the "N" logo near the midfoot to shine through while silver hits of leather near the heel tab and collar overlay shine amongst the greyscale hues. Underfoot sits a two-tone white and black midsole paired with a gum, black, and white rubber outsole.
The DTLR-exclusive New Balance 990v3 Greyscale is set to release on February 24th, 2023 through DTLR online and in-store. Coming in men’s, gradeschool, preschool sizing, and toddler sizing, the retail price is set at $215, $120, $100, and $80 respectively.
