HAL Studios, under the creative direction of John Bouquet, has carved out a unique space in the sneaker world with its distinctive and coveted collaborations. Known for its surprising and in-demand projects, such as its work with Asics on the Gel-1130 in Forest, Evergreen, and Glacier colorways, HAL Studios has consistently delivered designs that resonate with sneakerheads. Following a successful collaboration with adidas on the Velosamba, the new year is set to witness another exciting chapter in HAL Studios' journey as John Bouquet unveils the brand’s latest project with Asics on the Gel-Kayano 20.
HAL Studios’ take on the Asics Gel-Kayano 20 features an upper crafted from mesh with minimal overlays, ensuring a sleek and breathable design. Tumbled leather overlays on the midfoot, heel, and toe add a touch of luxury and durability. A notable departure from traditional designs is the laceless feature, replaced with straps across the tongue, offering a modern and functional twist.
HAL Studios has also redone branding details. We see an Asics logo added near the front of the tiger stripe on the midfoot, while the heel gets an all-new design. Usually, you'd find GEL branding in the center of the heel counter. However, HAL Studios splits its name, HAL, on the left and an abbreviation of Studios, SDS, on the right. Final branding details are found on the insole, while the sole unit below completes the design in its white, cream, and blue color palette.
The HAL Studios x Asics Gel-Kayano 20 Grey Olive was released on October 29, 2024, exclusively at HAL Studios online for $200. The second colorway, Bone, was released on November 9, 2024 at Hypefest in-person and online on November 14, 2024. A global launch will take place on November 28.
