Justin Saunders and JJJJound have built a cult following around the brand’s minimalistic yet ultra-premium products. This practice rings especially true in the footwear world, as the Montreal-based studio has landed multiple collaborations across the industry, including with Asics. Following up on the duo’s Gel-Kayano 14 project, JJJJound is tackling another mesh runner in the form of the Asics GT-2160.
Releasing in two neutral colorways, one in White Black Grey and the other in Black Grey, both pairs feature the same construction across the upper. A wide-spaced mesh base is placed along the toe, tongue, midfoot, and collar, while textured leather panels land on the mudguard and eyestays. The neutral color palette continues onto the Asics tiger stripe, which comes in silver, black, and grey on the white-based pair and black and white on the black colorway. Asics, JJJJound, and GT-2160 branding take on a contrasting volt finish for the white pair, with JJJJound taking over the heel and insole, while the black pair keeps things simple with a white finish. Underfoot, both pairs come with a tonal foam midsole and rubber outsole.
Alongside the two pairs for the public, a third pair that JJJJound calls a "collectors edition" appeared. The colorway seems to invert the White Black Grey pair while incorporating some material choices from the Black Grey pair.
The JJJJound x Asics GT-2160 Pack will release October 31, 2024, through JJJJound online. A release via Asics and select retailers will take place at a later date. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
