Montreal-based design studio JJJJound, steered by the creative genius Justin Saunders, has garnered significant attention in the sneaker community over the past few years. Its collaborations with major footwear giants have set the tone for contemporary streetwear, but the brand's endeavors with New Balance truly resonate with sneakerheads. While the iconic 99X series collabs often left fans in awe, this Fall/Winter, all eyes are on JJJJound's interpretation of the ever-popular New Balance 2002R.
Offering a fresh take, JJJJound departs from its usual monochrome stylings. Drawing a similar color palette as seen on atmos' recent Cybernetic-inspired colorway, this iteration of the 2002R features a beautiful interplay of greys and blues. The sneaker is adorned with premium dusty blue suede on the mudguard, midfoot, and heel. In contrast, the toe and tongue showcase darker blue on the perforated nubuck. The shoe's foundation has a grey mesh base, adding texture and depth to the overall design. The iconic "N" logo on the midfoot takes on a stealthy black, harmonizing with the black sockliner. JJJJound's signature touch is evident in the 3M reflective branding on the tongue, which elegantly contrasts the creamy lace set. Completing this stellar design is the white and cream foam midsole and the durable black rubber outsole, directly taken from the New Balance 860v2.
The JJJJound x New Balance 2002R will release October 26, 2023, exclusively via JJJJound. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $170.
