Taking standard sneakers designed for adults and shrinking them down to kids-ready versions usually comes with some challenges. The tech behind these designs usually doesn’t have children in mind, however, Jordan Brand is set to introduce the world to a brand new silhouette designed specifically for children - the Jordan 23/7.
As we all know, kids are ready to go and taking the time to sit down and tie their shoes takes away from the activities they’re ready to go enjoy. With that in mind, the Jordan 23/7’s slip-on design alongside its lightweight and durable design makes it the perfect choice for days at the park or running around inside the house and helps children feel independent and confident. Speaking on the process behind the sneakers creation, Jordan Brand Design Director for Kids Footwear, Tate Kuerbis, stated “Part of why we designed the 23/7 is because we wanted to create a shoe that is an everyday part of a kid’s world. Kids want to get into their shoes quickly to get out and play — this shoe enables them to do just that.”
Somewhat taking design cues from the Flyease technology Nike developed, the synthetic upper and soft heel pocket can be pulled back due to the pull loops while the upper is stretchy and adjustable to provide a comfy, locked-in feel underfoot. Helping early walkers, the forefoot flexibility of the sole unit is ideal for those just taking their first steps and can aid in making sports accessible for the next generation.
Launching in three colorways that take from Jordan Brand heritage, “Sky Fundamental,” “Dunk on Mars,” and “Bloodline,” the latter of the three will launch globally on January 16th, 2023 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers. The “Sky Fundamental” colorway launches later in the month of January while the “Dunk On Mars” is set to arrive in February. Releasing in preschool and toddler sizing, the retail price is set at $65 and $55 respectively.
