The Jordan Air Ship holds a distinctive place in sneaker history. Before the world was introduced to the Air Jordan 1, Michael Jordan graced the court in the Air Ship. Even though the silhouette was quickly overshadowed by its successor, the Air Ship retains a special allure for those who appreciate the origins of the Jordan sneakers. Now, as part of the Summer 2024 lineup, Jordan Brand is introducing a women's exclusive variant of the Air Ship in collaboration with French retailer Opium Paris.
Originally anticipated to be an homage to the Charlotte Hornets, Opium Paris' take on the Air Ship sees a mixture of materials with relatively simple colorblocking. Black nubuck hits the mudguard and lower eyestays while a cracked leather in black appears on the eyestays. White leather hits the toe and midfoot, the lateral getting an Opium Paris logo debossed onto the heel. Accenting hits of purple are located on the suede collar which contains Nike Air branding in blue. Added star embroidery hits the heel and lateral toe, both of which receive a blue finish. On the heel sits an intricate pattern that is reminiscent of vintage carpets while the look is complete via the white sail midsole and black rubber outsole.
The Opium x Jordan Air Ship PE SP W will release Summer 2024 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Available exclusively in women's sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
