Fusions between various Jordan models have been a thing for decades now with Jordan Brand often taking inspiration from the most iconic silhouettes and mashing them together. While many may not be fans of the mash-up design language as it often comes across as gimmicky, the latest iteration of a fusion silhouette takes inspiration from MJ’s three-peat between 1991 and 1993in which he wore the AJ 6, 7, and 8 - the Jordan MVP.
Seen here in the “Playoff” colorway, the model takes various elements from the three aforementioned sneakers and executes the mash-up perfectly. Obviously taking its color scheme from the Air Jordan 7 "Playoff" (or as many call it now "Raptor") we see a black nubuck upper with panels mimicking those found on the AJ 6, 7, and 8 as well as details borrowed from all three. Along the tongue, we see the iconic pull tab design from the AJ 6 with the purple Jumpman on the heel collar nearby referencing the AJ 7’s design.
An element from the AJ 8 appears on the lateral heel with a TPU overlay hosting the OG pattern we see on the model in shades of black, purple, and red. Back on the heel, the classic Nike Air branding is present with a nylon pull-tab connected to the interior neoprene bootie that makes slipping the model on and off a breeze. Rounding out the design is the AJ 6 midsole with Air Max cushioning in the heel paired with a semi-translucent icy blue and solid black rubber outsole.
The Jordan MVP Playoff is set to release in the Fall of 2023 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Releasing in full-family sizing, the retail price for the pair is set at $165 (men), $130 (GS), $75 (PS), and $55 (TD).
