A vast back catalog is a massive benefit to adidas, with basketball being an area with a rich history. Delving into the past and being reissued for the first time since 2005, the adidas Epi Pro will arrive in both Hi and Low forms. The adidas Epi Pro is the signature sneaker of Eurohoops legend Juan Antonio San Epifanio, known as Epi by his adoring fanbase. He spent his entire professional career with FC Barcelona and is considered royalty by the Spanish fans. A famous video often goes viral on social media, showing the lighting of the Olympic torch at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, where Epi carries the torch and holds it out for the archer to light his arrow.
adidas exclusively produced multiple signature Epi models in Spain during the late 80s and early 90s. As a result of its limited availability, the shoe is relatively unknown to sneakerheads today. Still, with a familiar and recognizable look, they line up nicely with the rest of the retro offerings currently offered by the basketball branch of The Brand With The Three Stripes. Launching in OG colorways, the Epi Pro reissue has been made possible by collector and historian Ernie Beckmann. He kindly lent the adidas basketball team in Los Angeles three pairs of originals, allowing them to produce as close to 1:1 as possible.
The Epi Pro Hi iteration arrives with an upper constructed of layers of core white leather, contrasted by semi pulse lilac hues for the Three Stripes on the sides and ankle wrapping. The lacestay is separated into sections, with the core black medial panel overlapping and featuring Trefoil branding. The Epi Pro Low arrives with a base upper of core white leather, with vivid hues of preloved blue and team college red utilized for the Three Stripes and detailing. Again, the lace stay features an overlay section with Trefoil branding. Both sneakers have adidas branding on the heel, woven tongue tags with Trefoil and Epi Pro co-branding, and sole units borrowed from the adidas Rivalry.
The adidas Epi Pro Pack was released on September 1, 2024, in Europe via adidas and select retailers online and in-store. A wider release is expected to follow in the coming months. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $150 for the Hi and $140 for the Low.
