Even though they are based in Boston, Massachusetts, New Balance has connected with Japanese designers for quite some time. With a large cult following, NB went ahead and opened up its Tokyo Design Studio which brings forth some of the most experimental takes on classic silhouettes in the brand's lineup. Outside of this, they’ve linked up with the likes of atmos Tokyo and CDG’s very own Junya Watanabe for a variety of offerings. Now, the latter of the two is looking to continue the collaborative efforts with the upcoming Junya Watanabe x New Balance 574 Pack.
Like many of Watanabe’s footwear designs, the sneakers come with elevated materials and a neutral color scheme. Coming in three colorways, "Black," "Dark Camo," and "Incense," the standard 574 design remains with repurposed Junya Watanabe branding visible on the insole and heel. Buttery suedes wrap around the mudguard, heel, and heel tab while the quarter panel, collar, and base layer get a smooth nubuck finish. Across all three options, the heel tab, collar, and sockliner get dressed in a contrasting cream tone while the insole gets a black/white makeover and co-branded “eYe Junya Watanabe MAN” and New Balance logos. Further branding details, like the “N” logo on the quarter panel and “NB 574” branding on the tongue tag, borrows from the primary color of the sneaker. Underfoot, a foam midsole featuring Encap cushioning comes in a complimentary shade while the rubber outsole below gets an all-black look.
The Junya Watanabe x New Balance 574 Pack has seen a limited release via select retailers over in Japan on October 21st, 2022. A wider, worldwide drop is set for November 18th. Releasing in men's sizing, the trio retails for approximately $225.
