New Balance has always had an extensive portfolio beyond the iconic 99X series. Delving deep into the brand's rich history, they've been known for lifestyle silhouettes that are both functional and stylish. A notable example is the RC30, which draws from the aesthetic charm of '70s runners, modernizing them for the contemporary wearer. Following this lineage, New Balance is poised to launch the RC42, unveiling the silhouette during Junya Watanabe's show-stopping runway event.
Junya Watanabe's interpretation of the RC42 is all about elegance through simplicity. The collection features two distinct colorways: a pristine white and a classic black. Both iterations showcase a harmonious blend of premium leather and plush suede, embodying the designer's penchant for high-quality materials. Subtle branding details elevate the sneaker's design: co-branded touches on the tongue and insole and Junya Watanabe's insignia gracefully adorning the suede panel on the heel. The shoe's slender sole unit, made of rubber, significantly differs from the RC30's more robust, grooved design.
The Junya Watanabe x New Balance RC42 will release Spring 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. As of this writing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
