Mesh runners have yet to go out of trend as brands like Nike provide more options for this market segment's vast array of silhouettes. For Nike, the P-6000 has become an underrated gem in the category as its low retail price, comfort, and clean color palettes have become favored by sneakerheads and the general public. Marking the first collab on the silhouette will be Canadian sneaker boutique Makeway.
Founded in 2020, Makeway is Canada’s first and only women-owned sneaker retailer. Their goal of creating a safe space, promoting equity and inclusion, and tailoring the shopping experience for women has been successful, as they’ve grown a loyal following in the Toronto area. Each year, the founders Abby Albino and Shelby Weaver host a party at the shop dubbed Party 6000, which helps inspire their version of the P-6000.
The silhouette is white, with orange, blue, and apricot pops throughout. White leather appears on the mudguard, portions of the midfoot, and the heel overlay, while a transparent TPU overlay covers most of the sneaker's profile. Below this overlay sits perforated leather in white and apricot, contrasting the shiny orange finish on the Swoosh. Vibrant blue shades line the edge of the white lace set, weaving through a lace loop that hosts the phrase "First, not last." Makeway branding is placed along the tongue tag in orange, while the retailer's Party 6000 event replaces the usual P-6000 text on the lateral heel. Finishing the sneaker is a grey foam midsole with blue hits near the heel and an orange rubber outsole. All of this comes packaged in a special box with nods to Toronto and Canada, including the area codes 416, 905, and 902, the latter two representing where the co-founders are from.
The Makeway x Nike P-6000 will release on November 20, 2024, via Makeway online and in-store, and on November 22, 2024, via Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
