The trend of slip-on silhouettes has exploded in 2022 with every brand under the sun introducing their versions of the model, though most are appearing in foam-based form. With the Boston-based New Balance often being one of the more high-quality mass-produced footwear brands, it makes sense that one of their versions of this trend would utilize premium suedes and leathers, taking the ever-popular 2002R silhouette and transforming it into a mule sneaker. Already appearing in the classic "NB Grey," the New Balance 2002R Mule is also set to launch in "Tan."
Stripping down the 2010s runner into its most basic form, the sneaker still comes constructed out of the high-quality materials previously mentioned with stacked overlays present throughout. On the toe, a mixture of tan and grey appears on the underlay and overlay respectively while the surrounding suede panels come in a tonal tan. Forgoing laces, the tongue of the sneaker features perforated suede with a “New Balance Running” logo taking on the two-tone grey and tan look seen on the rest of the upper. Along the midfoot, the N logo appears in a tri-tone grey, silver, and white with 3M reflective material piping the design. Underfoot, the classic 2002R midsole comes in white with a black rubber outsole finishing the look.
The New Balance 2002R Mule Tan has seen a limited release overseas earlier in the year with a wider release slated for sometime in 2022 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
