New Balance has been a popular footwear brand for decades, consistently delivering high-quality sneakers that have become fan favorites. Recent memory has seen the “dad shoe” brand emerge as one of fashion’s hottest brands, partly thanks to the revival of the Steven Smith-designed New Balance 550. For its latest iteration of the New Balance 550, the Boston-based footwear brand is adding distressed details to a clean “White Grey” colorway.
A pre-worn, distressed aesthetic is applied to the materials, featuring a combination of white, grey, navy, and sky blue shades. Distressed white leather wraps around the mudguard, midfoot, and heel, while grey suede takes over the toebox. Grey mesh is used on the tongue, collar, and heel for added texture, with this pair using a more open-faced mesh compared to other 550 releases. Accents can be found on the "550" text near the bottommost eyelets, the "NB" logo on the heel, and the suede overlay on the collar, all of which come in a light blue finish. Navy hits land along the "N" logo on the midfoot, select details on the New Balance-branded tongue tag, and on a rubber overlay along the heel. The worn-in white rubber midsole and outsole complete the sneaker's overall look.
The New Balance 550 Distressed White Grey will be released on May 12th, 2023, through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
