The 550 has very quickly become one of the most popular pairs in New Balance's release roster. Originally introduced in the '80s during the basketball boom, the retro silhouette was brought back in 2020, and since then, it's dominated sneaker collections everywhere. There's no wonder why, really. With colorways like the "Pink Sand," "Vintage Indigo," and the freshly-announced New Balance 550 "Turtledove Sandstone," we're certain that if you're not already obsessed with the vintage model, you will be very soon.
Unlike other 550s, this particular pairs drops the classic all-leather construction in favor of something a little different. Working on top of a white turtledove canvas base, beige sandstone suede panels wrap around the laterals and medials for a subtle yet striking contrast. The legendary "N" logo is finely inlaid across the sides, and as if that wasn't already eye-catching enough, the Boston sportswear giant has added lime green accents throughout for a pop of color that's sure to turn heads. An old school basketball graphic features on the tongue tag as a nod to the shoe's roots, and all of this sits on top of a crisp all-white midsole that's made for everyday wear.
The New Balance 550 Turtledove Sandstone W will release exclusively in women's sizes sometime in 2023. Retail is set at $110, and it'll be available via New Balance and select retailers worldwide very soon.
