New Balance has maintained a position in the “hype” space of sneakers for the last year and change with the brand linking up with top designers like Teddy Santis, Salehe Bembury, and Joe Freshgoods. Outside of these collaborations, we have seen NB reach into the vault and revive models that have been absent from sneakers for quite some time. Aside from the 2002R, 1906R, and 550/650, New Balance recently reintroduced the world to the New Balance 580. Originally released in Japan as a takedown version of the Made In USA 585, the silhouette became a classic for Japanese collectors and worldwide sneakerheads years later with collaborations from Mad Hectic and their series of partners like Undefeated and Stussy. Now after its revival with help from Stray Rats, more inline releases are headed our way including the “Blue Multi” colorway.
Covered in various materials including suede, mesh, leather, and TPU, the silhouette primarily is dressed in shades of blue with multi-color accents spotted throughout the design. Thick, hairy suede on the toebox and heel take on a darker shade of blue compared to the mesh toebox, collar, and tongue while the mid-foot’s leather panel and lace set come in a similar hue to the mesh portions. Aqua green-like shades appear near the midfoot and toe while a brownish-red suede gets utilized on the “N” branding and back on the heel tab. For its final pop of color on the upper, we see a TPU overlay near the collar come in purple while the volt green tongue tag features hits of blue and pink in its design. Underfoot sits a tri-toned midsole featuring orange on the back half (mixed with a yellow Rollbar) and green near the toe. Rounding out the design is the black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 580 Blue Multi is set to release in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
