New Balance’s method of bringing back archival silhouettes has played out beautifully for the Boston-based footwear brand. Models like the 740, 1000, 509, and more are beginning to find new life in a sneaker culture that appreciates the techy, mesh runner designs of the previous decades. Although we’ve been given previews of multiple 740 colorways, including a Concord Multi coming in March 2025 and a collaborative take by Aminé, New Balance’s website has loaded up another pair set to drop in an Ice Blue color scheme next week.
A wide-spaced mesh base in white makes up most of the upper, with minimal paneling on the upper, taking on silver and blue shades. These wavy contoured panels appear along the mudguard, eyestays, portions of the midfoot, and back on the heel, with the piping coming in a dark blue shade. Accenting ice blue pops appear on patterns laid across these overlays. However, more silver appears along the tongue tag, broken up by bright blue NB and 740 logos. Other branding details, including the 740 near the lateral heel and the N logo, come in shades of ice blue and dark blue. Finishing the design is a white and blue midsole, borrowed from another budget-friendly mesh runner, the New Balance 530, paired with a blue rubber outsole.
The New Balance 740 Ice Blue will release on October 30, 2024, through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
