This year marks the 35th anniversary of the New Balance 996, one of the brand's most enduring sneaker models. Its release in 1988 marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the New Balance line, setting new standards in comfort and style. As a nod to this illustrious history, New Balance is set to release a special 35th Anniversary Pack, putting a distinctive twist on the timeless silhouette.
While upcoming releases such as the Made in Japan iteration and the slew of colorways under Teddy Santis’ Made in USA banner stick to the OG construction, these two celebratory colorways have a new feature. Each pair includes a removable "N" logo on the lateral midfoot that can attached to a lone eyelet. One colorway combines various blues and greys with an aged sole unit, adding vintage flair. The second sticks to New Balance's iconic greyscale, complemented by the same aged sole unit. Each tag is adorned on its reverse side with a gold text tribute to the 996's 35th birthday, an emblem of the shoe's enduring legacy.
The New Balance 996 35th Anniversary Pack will release July 28, 2023 through New Balance Japan while a global launch through New Balance and select retailers will take place later in the year. The retail price is approximately $142. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app for the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
