Teddy Santis has ascended into the upper echelons of the fashion world with his brand Aime Leon Dore and his job as the head of New Balance’s Made In USA line. Since beginning to release pairs under NB in 2022, we’ve seen the iconic 99X series (mainly comprising of the v1 through v3) get covered in various shades that fit into Teddy’s color palette, however, it seems Santis is looking for a new challenge with different silhouettes. Last released in 2021, the New Balance 996 is coming back in Made In USA fashion with a clean “Navy” color scheme as a part of Santis' Season 2 collection.
The late 80s Steven Smith-designed New Balance 996 keeps its classic construction and takes on a color scheme we’ve seen before in Teddy Santis’ collections (as well as a 2002R Protection Pack colorway) as the upper comes dressed in two blue shades as well as creamy tans. Pigskin suede covers the mudguard, midfoot panel, and heel portions in a dark navy blue shade while light blue hues take over the mesh on the toebox, collar, and tongue. Stark white shades contrast this two-tone build on the lace set, sockliner, and heel tab with vintage cream shades taking over the 996-branded tongue tag. Finishing the upper is the navy and white “N” logo on the midfoot and tan suede on the heel while the entire design is rounded out by a vintage midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 996 Made In USA by Teddy Santis Navy has already seen a release through Aime Leon Dore while a wider drop is set for March 3rd, 2023 through select retailers and possibly newbalance.com. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $185.
