New Balance has a long history of creating iconic sneakers, especially in the 99X series. These sneakers are more than just a trend in the sneaker world, as their classic designs still hold up decades past many of the model’s original introductions. This year marks the 30th anniversary for the New Balance 998, the first sneaker to feature ABZORB cushioning. To celebrate this anniversary, New Balance is re-releasing the beloved 998 Grey in its original shape and colorway.
Releasing under the "Made In USA" banner (which is helmed by ALD founder Teddy Santis), this 998 boasts a beautiful combination of materials and shades of grey. The upper features grey pigskin suede on the mudguard, midfoot, and heel, while a darker grey adorns the leather vamp, textured leather tongue, TPU collar, and leather heel tab. Grey mesh can be seen on the toe box and portions of the collar, adding breathability and a touch of contrast. Bold "New Balance 998 Made In USA" branding is displayed on the tongue in white. Further branding details remain faithful to the OG, like the 3M reflective “N” logo on the midfoot. A grey ABZORB midsole provides superior cushioning and is paired with a black and grey outsole for traction and durability.
The New Balance 998 Grey will release on May 12 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, the retail price is set at $185.
