Under the creative wing of Teddy Santis, New Balance has been carving a noteworthy path in the sneaker industry with its Made in USA line, earning recognition and appreciation from sneakerheads worldwide. Since 2022, with Santis at the helm, three compelling seasons of collections have dropped, consistently maintaining a standard of aesthetic appeal and craftsmanship. Now, as the frosty months of 2023 loom closer, sneak peeks of the new colorways from the revered 99X series envisioned for Santis' Made in USA Season 4 Collection have begun to circulate, notably the 998 Made in USA in a sophisticated Olive Incense.
This rendition of the New Balance 998 Made in USA eloquently intertwines tradition with a lush, contemporary color palette and comes in a similar theme to the recently unveiled 990v4. Engulfing most of the upper, a refined olive green crafted from premium suede swathes the mudguard, midfoot, tongue, and heel, offering luxury and durability. Contrasting that, a rich brown suede delicately interplays, positioning itself on the vamp and heel, while a lighter olive tone surfaces on the mesh sections. Creamy undertones embellish the interior lining of the prominent white "N" logo and grant a subtle contrast against the TPU reinforcement near the collar. A nod to tradition is captured through retro New Balance branding on the tongue, culminating the design with a cream and white Abzorb-cushioned midsole and a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 998 Made in USA Olive Incense and the aforementioned 990v4 have begun to appear in-store at select retailers, including a new location for New Balance in California and at Kith. A wider release via online channels will take place October 26, 2023 through New Balance and select retailers. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $210.
