The first color that comes to mind when thinking of New Balance is their classic grey, often referred to as “Marblehead.” Though they are often associated with their dad-shoe 99X series, the Boston-based brand dips their toes into the experimental realm from time to time. One of these experimental designs comes in the form of the XC-72, taking inspiration from 70s concept cars and infusing it with three vintage runners.
Helping make up the silhouette is a mixture of suede overlays and leather underlays, all of which come dressed in various shades of grey. Running from the square toebox to the midfoots “N” logo in a darker grey is a light grey suede overlay, split in two pieces down the middle. Up around the eyestays are more hits of grey suede, housed between the white tongue and white flat laces. Back on the heel, more grey suede sits above a molded rubber guard. Rounding out the look is the foam midsole in white and triple traction patterned rubber outsole, featuring elements from the New Balance XC15, 375, and 620.
The New Balance XC-72 “Marblehead Rain Cloud” is set to release on May 21st, 2022 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120. To stay updated on all things New Balance and more, keep it locked to our Twitter andMobile App to stay up to date on future releases.
