While adidas is often the first sportswear label to come to mind when thinking of football (or soccer if you’re in the US), Nike continues to expand its reach in the sport. On top of recently resigning Erling Haaland to a boot deal and announcing they will no longer use kangaroo leather, The Swoosh has just unveiled its 2023 football kits and collection for its 13 federation partners.
Consisting of Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Korea, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, and the USA, the kits and various clothing pieces are inspired by each respective nation's history, heritage, and culture. Each nation's colors are vibrantly displayed with one kit featuring a monochromatic finish alongside Nike and national team logos, while alternate kits come with unique patterns and designs.
On top of the design details, Nike introduces its new innovative Nike Leak Protection: Period into the Pro short silhouette that matches each kit. These uniforms will also feature Nike DRI-FIT ADV technology, the latest advanced-performance material innovation from The Swoosh. Prioritizing mobility, breathability, and sustainability, the design process utilized 4D data, body-mapping tech, and the latest digital design tools to “tune the material pixel by pixel,” according to Nike’s press release.
As we’ve seen with many of Nike’s latest advances, sustainability was at the forefront. Each kit is constructed from 100% recycled polyester from recycled plastic bottles, while federation crests, Swooshs, and trims feature 100% Nike Grind. A significant part of the design process that leads to waste, prototyping, and sample making, was also streamlined with the help of digital tech and state-of-the-art machines to cut down samples by 75%.
The fans can also partake in these kits and apparel to rep whichever nation represents them. Hoodies, shorts, shirts, and track jackets were created for each of the 13 federation partners and will be available alongside kits beginning in April on nike.com. Sizing will be across the board and cover kids and adults, though pricing has yet to be announced.
