With a legacy stretching over four decades, the Nike Air Force 1 Low has solidified its place in sneaker culture as an iconic silhouette that serves as a canvas for storytelling. Over recent years, the brand has embraced city-themed narratives, and the Windy City, Chicago, is now in the spotlight. Joining the Air Max 1 '86 ranks, the AF1 Low is set to pay homage to Chicago's history, mainly drawing inspiration from the devastating Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Nike has yet to go at it alone. Collaborating with esteemed local establishments such as Leaders, Notre, RSVP, St. Alfred, SVRN, and Succezz, Nike aims to craft a tale that resonates deeply with the city's soul.
Delving deep into Chicago's historical narrative, the AF1 Low draws its primary muse from a legendary incident believed to have catalyzed the Great Chicago Fire – a cow toppling a lantern. This urban legend finds representation on the shoe, particularly the medial Swoosh, which boasts a distinctive cow print. Contrasting this stark symbolism, the remainder of the sneaker revels in a harmonious blend of summit white, gym red, and black. Aesthetic enhancements come in cracked leather and aged finishes, lending a rugged charm to the piece. The city's iconic skyline, a symbol of its resilience and grandeur post-disaster, graces both the tongue and the insole. Final touches include a vintage Air Force 1 midsole with red Air branding, all set above a red rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low Chicago will release October 21, 2023, through Nike SNKRS and select NBHD retailers in Chicago. Available in men's sizes, the retail price is set at $145.
