Triple Black sneakers are often associated with restaurant workers, referees, or old folks. However, one pair of all-black kicks holds an infamous aura around it: Black Air Force 1s. Memes have spawned about “Black Air Force activity,” but Nike is not afraid of this negative connotation as they want to make the blackest Air Force 1 to date with the upcoming Vanta Black colorway.
The actual Vantablack hue dates back to 2014, when Surrey NanoSystems introduced the world to what is still considered the blackest shade possible, absorbing 99.965% of all light. Nike doesn’t use expensive material on this AF1; instead, it utilizes a much deeper black textile than we’re used to on the sneaker. This deep black shade coats the mudguard, toebox, eyestays, midfoot panel, Swoosh, heel overlays, and tongue. More black takes over the lace set, AF1-branded lace dubrae, and tongue tag. Underfoot, the rubber midsole, and outsole come in a more traditional black shade that we’ve become accustomed to seeing on the AF1.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low Vanta Black will release in Holiday 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $135.
