Digging into the archives and reviving Tinker Hatfield's original design, Nike has brought back the iconic “Big Bubble” variant of the Air Max 1. First launched in the classic “Sport Red” colorway, a few more standard colorways (including “Smokey Mauve” and “Football Grey Dark Obsidian”) headed our way on top of various golf-ready versions. For its latest golf version of the Air Max ‘86 OG, Nike reminds us to “Play To Live” with colorful and playful graphics.
Coming to us as a part of a more expansive pack celebrating the US Open, Nike dresses the model in a clean mixture of white/grey with vibrant accents throughout. We see graphics depicting golf balls and Nike-branded logos combining blues, purples, and oranges along the mudguard. Just above this sits standard Air Max 1 materials with a mesh base layer paired with suede overlays on the vamp, midfoot, and heel. Stark-white hues appear on the tongue, lace set, and base layer, while a greyish-silver shade is applied to the suede overlays. Playful text is on the tongue tag and Swoosh, with the latter receiving “Play To Live” text plastered in blue. Orange accents on the TPU eyestays and Nike branding atop the tongue finish the upper, while a white AM 1 “Big Bubble” midsole and multi-color rubber outsole ready for the course completes the design.
The Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 OG Golf Play To Live will be released on July 20th, 2023, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $170.
