The journey of the Nike Air Max 1 has been nothing short of iconic. Celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2022, the model saw a revival of the "Big Bubble" iteration for the first time since its limited initial run. After introducing a series of colorways, including the coveted OG "Sport Red" and various golf-ready designs, releases have been scarce in recent months. That's set to change with the introduction of the Air Max 1 '86 OG "USA,” a classic colorway for the AM 1.
Already launched in a golf variant earlier in the year and last seen on a standard Air Max 1 in 2017, the "USA” colorway blends white mesh, deep obsidian suede, and muted grey suede. The mesh foundation is prominently featured around the toe box and collar regions. Meanwhile, the mudguard and signature Nike Swoosh are crafted from rich obsidian suede, providing a stark contrast. Elevating the design are the red TPU eyestays placed near a tongue adorned with red and blue Nike branding. Nike Air branding on the heel stands out in a bold red hue. The sneaker's foundation is grounded in a white foam midsole housing the "Big Bubble" Air unit, distinguishable by its four pillars in contrast to the conventional three seen in contemporary Air Max editions. The design concludes with a white, obsidian, and red tri-colored outsole.
The Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG USA will release September 9, 2023, through Nike and select NBHD retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
