More and more colorways of the iconic Tinker Hatfield-designed Nike Air Max 1 continue to emerge. Following the recent reveal of pairs like the Big Bubble version of the AM1 in “Smokey Mauve Dark Team Red” as well as revivals of classics like the “Keep Rippin Stop Slippin 2.0,” we have another addition to Nike’s “Athletic Department” Collection with the standard Air Max 1.
Joining the likes of the Dunk Low, Dunk High, and Air Force 1, this Air Max 1 “Athletic Department” features a mix of suede, mesh, and tumbled leather that makes up its upper. Black hits on the mudguard and Swoosh contrast the white mesh on the toebox and collar. Grey suede is added to the vamp and midfoot panel, creating a nice transition to the creamy tumbled leather on the midfoot. The sneaker comes with tonal laces and a matching tongue, while the Nike branding and TPU eyelets come in varsity maize, adding some pops of color to the design. The upper is finished with a grey suede heel tab that features Nike Air text embroidered into the design. Rounding out the look is a creamy Air Max 1 midsole and a black and yellow rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max 1 Athletic Department is set to release in Fall 2023 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. The sneaker will be available in men’s sizing and retail for $150.
