If you ask any sneakerhead what the most iconic Air Max silhouette is, there's a massive chance they'd bring up Nike's Air Max 1. The brainchild of legendary footwear designer Tinker Hatfield, he borrowed elements from his experience as an architect for this model. This has worked exceptionally well, considering the AM1 has mostly stayed the same since it was first introduced in 1987. With that said, it looks like it will be getting a pretty big update very soon as we take our very first glimpse at the Nike Air Max 1 Crepe Soft Grey. Unlike any colorway we've seen before, make sure you read on to discover everything we know so far.
Working on top of a soft grey canvas base, this Air Max 1 is overlaid with thunder grey suede throughout for a luxurious look and feel. This buttery material extends to the lacing system and heel, while complementary laces tie everything together. Across the laterals and medials, you'll find a neutral grey tumbled leather Swoosh, which adds to the premium aesthetic, and of course, you can't talk about this sneaker without focusing on the midsole. While the unit looks like your usual Air affair from a distance, it's finished with a genuine crepe rubber outsole. While this has been done on this '80s silhouette before, this is, hands down, the cleanest rendition yet, perfectly blending casual and formal stylings into one single shoe.
The Nike Air Max 1 Crepe Soft Grey was originally released on February 24, 2023. A restock is set for December 1, in men's sizes. They will be available at Nike, the SNKRS app, and select online and in-store stockists, for $160 in men's sizes.
