Nike’s Air Max 1, a silhouette that revolutionized the sneaker game with its visible Air unit in 1987, is a pivotal piece in Nike's extensive catalog. Over the years, it has seen countless reinterpretations, each maintaining the essence of Tinker Hatfield’s original design while injecting new life into the iconic model. As we approach Summer 2024, Nike is set to introduce the Air Max 1 in a Monarch colorway, a fresh take on the classic that pays homage to its rich heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics.
The Nike Air Max 1 Monarch retains the beloved OG colorblocking but introduces a twist with its material choices. The overlays, traditionally made from synthetic suede, have been upgraded to tumbled leather for a more premium feel, as seen on the vamp, midfoot panel, and heel. This upgrade enhances the shoe’s durability and visual appeal, giving it a refined texture.
The base layer of the sneaker features white mesh, offering breathability and contrast. A monarch orange is applied to the suede mudguard and sockliner, adding depth and character to the overall design. Black accents adorn the suede Swoosh, TPU eyelets, and the Nike branding on the tongue, creating a harmonious balance between the colors. Completing the look is a crisp white midsole paired with a black and white outsole, ensuring comfort and traction while echoing the sneaker's classic aesthetics.
The Nike Air Max 1 Monarch will release on April 1, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $140.
