2023 marks a particularly important year for Nike. Not only will we be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Blazer and the 40th birthday of the Air Pegasus line, it has also been twenty years since the release of the original "Shima Shima" Pack. Inspired by Japanese culture, the collection debuted in 2003 with the Air Max 1, Air Trainer 1, and Dunk High, and is widely-regarded as one of the most iconic sneaker ranges from the early 2000s. To commemorate this massive milestone, the American sportswear company will be revisiting the pack with a new selection of styles, including the Nike Air Max 1 "Shima Shima" that we've actually never seen before.
While 2023's rendition of the legendary colorway is different, it takes obvious cues from the OG. Working on top of a summit white base, wolf grey panels wrap around the sidewalls and lacing system, while plum eclipse hues adorn the mudguards and Swoosh. Complementary laces tie everything together, and the signature pinstripe detailing from the original pair makes a comeback here. Japanese kanji adorns the hemp tongue and insole in red as a nod to the shoe's Eastern influences, and all of this sits on top of a creamy Max Air midsole that's as comfortable as it gets.
The Nike Air Max 1 Shima Shima is set to release on March 10th, 2023 in men's sizes. Expected to be available via Nike, the SNKRS app, and select retailers worldwide, a retail price is set at $160.
