On top of his work with Jordan Brand, Tinker Hatfield is responsible for some of our favorite Nike models released in the 80s and 90s. Arguably his most iconic outside of JB, the Nike Air Max 1, revolutionized the sneaker scene as it was the first model to showcase the Air unit held within. On top of the “Big Bubble” rendition returning in 2023, plenty of colorways are hitting the scene throughout the year in its “traditional” construction. For the latest to be unveiled, Nike is paying homage to 2003’s AM 1 “Chili” with the a new iteration of the classic colorway for 2023.
Constructed out of its usual mesh and suede combo, the upper comprises white hits with black and red accenting throughout. Black shades land on the mudguard, sockliner, and Nike Air text on the heel, while we see a mixture of white mesh and pure platinum suede on the base layer and midfoot overlays, respectively. Tonal white laces work up a similarly-shaded tongue towards a red “Air Max” branded tongue tag. More hits of red land on the TPU eyelets and the iconic Nike Swoosh. Underfoot sits a white Air Max 1 midsole with a red Air unit paired with a black and white rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max 1 Chili 2.0 will be released online and in-store on July 20th, 2023, through Nike and select NSW retailers. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $140.
