One of the most iconic series of sneakers released, Air Max models have become a defining part of Nike’s identity. Even though we still see innovation with new silhouettes like the Air Max Pulse and VaporMax, many hold models like the Air Max 97 in a special place. This silhouette, designed by Christian Tresser and taking inspiration from Japanese bullet trains, is arguably the most recognizable Air Max model, especially in its OG “Silver Bullet” colorway. Fresh off a re-release of the model in unisex and GS sizing last November, Nike is bringing it back exclusively in kids sizing this July. What's even better, the preschool and toddler versions will feature full-length Max Air units, just like their gradeschool counterpart.
Keeping things identical to the OG pair from 97, the model retains its iconic wavy upper with the leather and mesh panels mostly doused in silver shades. Breaking up this monochromatic look is a single panel of white running along the upper while we also see black and red hits take over select details. These accenting hits can be found along the midfoot with a red Swoosh, atop the tongue’s red/black Swoosh-branded tag, and the two nylon pull tabs. Underfoot sits the classic Air Max 97 midsole in white, featuring a full-length Max Air unit on all versions. Rounding out the look is a black and white rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max 97 Silver Bullet GS will be released online and in-store on July 22nd, 2023, through Nike and select NSW retailers. Coming in GS, PS, and TD sizing, the retail price is set at $160, $130, and $100, respectively.
