Since Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max 1 in 1987, Nike has introduced new iterations in the Air Max series every year. Last Air Max Day, Nike introduced the world to the latest innovation in Air technology with the Air Max DN. This silhouette produced the new Dynamic Air unit with two pressure zones in the dual-chamber, four-tubed Air unit, 15 psi at the rear and five at the front. Javel Berlin, who works for the streetwear brand Corteiz, has been spotted wearing the next iteration of the Air Max DN, the Air Max DN8.
Starting with the upper, we see a multi-layered mesh with Nexkin sublimated slashes to create wavy, oval-shaped panels. Chrome Swoosh logos are placed on the sides of the upper, while a reflective logo lands along the tongue tag. Reinforcements are found across the upper, including a molded TPU toe clip and a dual-injection TPU heel clip. As for the tooling setup, Nike continues with the four-chambered, multi-pressure tubular Air units, expanding the cushioning to cover the entire length of the sole unit. Below sits a rubber outsole with a translucent finish to make the DN Air tubes visible.
From a distance, the design almost resembles an On Running or Hoka sneaker, which could signal Nike’s acknowledgment of the growing influence of its competitors in the running space. On Running and Hoka have been taking market share away from The Swoosh over the last year, and anecdotally, It's not uncommon to walk through an airport or visit a gym and notice a shift in footwear choices. Many prefer the cloud-like cushioning and sleek profiles of On Running and Hoka shoes over traditional Nike offerings.
Nike will debut the new Nike Air Max DN8 in multiple colorways in March 2025. Available in unisex sizing, the sneaker will retail for $190. Expect to see more early images of pairs in the coming months as we approach the Air Max holiday in March next year.
