Air Max technology has evolved over the decades since its introduction in 1978. Decades after the cushioning system debuted in the Nike Air Tailwind, new variants of this set-up emerged with Tuned Air, first seen on the Air Max Plus, continuing to hold its own in the modern day. In the latest iteration, Nike boldly transforms the iconic Air Max Plus into a trail-ready warrior by introducing the Air Max Plus Hiker Patina.
At first glance, the sneaker showcases a high-top silhouette thanks to a ripstop shroud that extends its profile. This edition, complete with a zip-down feature, reveals the familiar contours of the classic Air Max Plus beneath, combining leather and mesh for durable comfort and breathability. The shoe's exterior features a TPU overlay that echoes the signature wavy design of the original model, now in a striking black that contrasts with the patina-inspired aesthetics.
The sneaker's palette draws inspiration from natural oxidation processes, with a Swoosh logo that appears to have weathered over time, alongside additional patina effects that create a gradient from a rusty hue to black across the shroud. The theme of exploration and adventure is further emphasized by a removable pouch on the heel, offering practical storage for the trail. This model stands on a sole that mimics the appearance of worn and cracked rubber yet houses the renowned Tuned Air units, ensuring that comfort and performance are not compromised.
The Nike Air Max Plus Hiker Patina will release in 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. As of this writing, the retail price has not been announced.
