Vintage Nike colorways and silhouettes always drum up considerable hype and The Swoosh is always keen on bringing back classics after enough time has passed. We’ve already seen the Air Max 1 Crepe Hemp get the retro treatment, and now the Nike Air Trainer 1 "Shima Shima" is making a return for the first time in almost 20 years.
With its original release being exclusive to Canada and Asia, the Shima Shima Pack was influenced by Japanese culture through its earth-tone shades. The toebox and mudguard take on a two-tone shade of tan with the darker of the two present on the mudguard. Just above this, the iconic lockdown strap and suede overlay come in a dark brown tone, matching the laces that work to the Japanese-branded tongue tag.
Working back, the rest of the silhouette partakes in the two lighter shades of brown, sans the Nike Swoosh along the midfoot. A flannel-like pattern appears on the sockliner in varying earth tones, complimenting the brown insole and light red Japanese text graphic. The last hit of Nike branding on the upper gets embroidered in a dark brown thread back on the heel. Underfoot, a two-tone dark brown and light brown midsole is paired with a similarly shaded two-tone rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Trainer 1 Shima Shima is slated to release during the 2022 holiday season through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, the retail price is set at $125. For updates on the latest from Nike and the rest of the sneaker world, keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app.
