Nike has a history of venturing into various sports, often pioneering new footwear for emerging activities. In a groundbreaking move for 2024, Nike introduced the Nike Jam, a shoe designed specifically for breakdancing. This debut is perfectly timed for the Summer 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, where breakdancing will be featured as an Olympic sport for the first time. The Nike Jam was initially previewed in a White Varsity Royal colorway, but official images of multiple colorways, including the sleek Black Gum variant, have surfaced.
The Nike Jam Black Gum fuses retro style with contemporary technology tailored for the dynamic movements of breakdancers. The shoe features a multi-layered construction utilizing a blend of nubuck, suede, leather, nylon, and TPU, with various mesh layers beneath the wavy upper panels. The predominantly black upper includes a nylon strap along the sides and a metallic silver Swoosh with a 3M reflective finish to enhance visibility. The gum rubber midsole boasts an upside-down Swoosh near the heel, designed to appear correctly oriented when breakdancers perform headspins. This design sits atop a black and gum outsole, ensuring optimal grip and durability for rigorous dance routines.
The Nike Jam Black Gum will release on July 24, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120.
