For over 20 years, LeBron James has dominated the NBA court and cemented himself as a legend of the game. Along this journey, his partners at Nike have helped elevate the Akron-born superstar to even greater heights thanks to marketing campaigns and his signature shoe line, the Nike LeBron. In the past, these shoes were designed with James’ explosive playstyle in mind and often were big, bulky, yet responsive hoop sneakers. With early looks at the latest silhouette, the LeBron 20, thanks to his two sons Bronny and Bryce, as well as an early release through JD Sports/Finish Line, the true tech specs and story behind its design are being told by The Swoosh.
Celebrating 20 years with Nike and in the NBA, the next generation of hoopers was at the forefront of the design team. Many players nowadays opt for lightweight, low-top sneakers for on-court action, and Nike delivered thanks to the LeBron 20s knit upper and the use of Nike Sphere on the collar lining. Getting into tech specs, the cushioning system features two types of Air, top-loaded Zoom Turbo on the forefoot and a 13mm thick Zoom Air on the heel that helps with impact protection. To help with responsiveness, Nike inserted a carbon fiber shank on the midfoot while the outsole features a multidirectional pattern to create a grippy feel when making plays. Moving back to the upper, the synthetic-wrapped lateral guardrail helps secure your foot and calls back to special moments in James’ career thanks to intricate designs etched atop the material.
For the debut of the Nike LeBron 20, the Time Machine colorway will release on September 29th, 2022 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store while a slew of colorways is set to release during the holiday season. Available in adult and kids sizing, the retail price for adult pairs is set at $200.
