Nike has recently unveiled a new running silhouette, developed to make moving feel smoother and ultimately help athletes (and everyday consumers) keep going in their fitness journeys. The design of this silhouette, the Nike Motiva, took insight from women logging workouts on the Nike Run Club app and interviews from thousands of people who helped shape how the design team approached this new running silhouette.
Nike's research team discovered that most women who logged their first workout on the Nike Run Club app averaged a 13-minute mile, fluctuating between walking, jogging, running, starting, and stopping throughout their activity. This observation prompted Nike to conduct further research to understand the unique needs of this athlete, leading to the creation of a shoe that would help make exercise more enjoyable and motivate women to keep going.
The Nike Motiva is designed to reduce disruptions in the stride and make moving feel smoother, making it more comfortable during exercise. The shoe features an exaggerated rocker that helps provide a smooth transition as you move forward, easing your foot to the ground after heel impact before helping to roll your foot along to push back off for your next step. The full-length Cushlon 3.0 foam in the Nike Motiva midsole provides cushioning to help soften the impact as your feet hit the ground. On the outsole, the ComfortGroove bumps provide a softer underfoot experience.
For its internals, Nike crafted a “soft foam waterfall collar” that hugs the ankle and heel and included an internal half-bootie that makes it easy to put on and remove the shoe.
The Nike Motiva Light Silver Green Strike W will be released in May 2023 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. The shoe will be available in women's sizing, and the retail price is set at $110.
