This Nike SB Dunk Low Sample is Based on OFF! Bug Spray

When developing footwear, brands cycle through various rounds of sampling to get the materials, colors, or shapes right for a particular sneaker. Mostly, these samples don’t leave the brand's hands; however, some will “fall out the back of a truck” and end up in the hands of collectors and sellers. For Nike SB, this more experimental side of The Swoosh often gets very creative regarding the design inspiration for their releases, as is the case with this unreleased OFF! Bug Spray sample.
Dating back to 2008 when the SB Dunk Mosquito hit shelves, these OFF!-inspired SB Dunk Lows join a long list of unofficial collaborations, like the Heinikens, Freddy Krueger, Jedi, and more, that come from Nike SB. The color scheme from the bug spray is directly translated onto the leather and suede paneling, with a darker green hue used for the suede on the mudguard and heel overlay. A light green smooth leather sits on the toe, midfoot, and collar.
Pops of orange, which comes from the OFF! logo is located on the thick rope laces, suede Swoosh, and Nike branding on the tongue and heel. You’ll also find hits of yellow along the eyestay, tongue, and heel tab, referencing the yellow glow surrounding the OFF! logo on the can. Underfoot, the design has a lime green rubber midsole and a tonal rubber outsole.
Rumored to be 1 of 3 pairs, this Nike SB Dunk Low OFF! Bug Spray sample will remain just that — an unreleased sample. However, the closest we’ve gotten to this pair is the recently released Escargot SB Dunk, so if you’re looking for something similar, there is an option out there.
