Reebok has been on a roll lately. Riding high on the successful signings of Angel Reese, Justin Fields, and Shakur Stevenson, the brand is on pace for a massive comeback in the sneaker space. Known for their collaborations with various artists, labels, and IPs, such as Alien, Packer, and Friends With Animals, their retro footwear has always been well-received.
In the 80s, Reebok burst onto the basketball scene with their iconic Pump technology. Athletes like Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson have had successful signature lines alongside various in-line silhouettes. While the brand backed off from making performance basketball sneakers over a decade ago, Reebok unveiled its plan to revamp its basketball footwear category with a refresh in 2025, which Shaq and AI will oversee.
Likely headlined by retro models and Angel Reese's debut sneaker, Reebok has gone to social media to tease their first new basketball sneaker, the Reebok Engine A. The model comes in low-top form, a popular cut preferred by most of today's ballers, and reintroduces Reebok's iconic Energy Return System (ERS). Inspired by the '90s Mobius line, the shoe takes on a modern design that features an exoskeleton upper. This will allow for bold colorblocking and comes constructed from lightweight synthetic materials. A molded heel counter and internal counter add lockdown support.
As for cushioning, the ERS utilizes nitrogen-infused foam to absorb energy and propel the foot forward. SUPERFLOAT in the heel and forefoot aids comfort and cushioning, while a high-density foam rim and internal shank add stability. TPU midsole accents and a sway bar reference classic '80s models. Finally, the outsole comes with multidirectional, modified herringbone traction for grip on the court.
The Reebok Engine A will launch Spring 2025. However, Angel Reese will debut the model on-court during her game against the Indiana Fever tonight, August 30, at 7:30 PM ET. Expect to see multiple players in the WNBA and NBA rock the model prior to its release next year. When released, it will be available via Reebok and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
