One of the most celebrated female musicians in history, Rihanna, has dipped her toes into the fashion industry during the last decade with her collaborative ready-to-wear line Fenty in partnership with LVMH becoming a household name in the fashion world in a few short years. Looking back at her history in this space, RiRi previously held a Creative Director role at Puma in 2014 in which she helped create collaborative apparel and sneakers that played into the trends of the 2010s. After a Fenty x Puma collection released in 2017, the two put the partnership on hold while the Barbados-born superstar focused on other projects, however, after a major comeback in the last few months including a memorable Super Bowl halftime show, RiRi and Puma have announced that “She’s Back.”
While the world is still waiting for a full unveiling of how deep the partnership will run, based on past collections and Rihanna’s superstar power, expect to see collaborative silhouettes and apparel capsules released over the course of the coming months. Considering her eye for modern-day trends, the collections should tackle the current zeitgeist seen in fashion and with her experience running a high fashion brand her eye for design is even more fine-tuned. Some notable silhouettes the two have worked on in the past may make a return like the Creeper silhouette that took on a platform sole design.
The Fenty x Puma being back is a major win for women’s fashion, Puma itself, and fans of Rihanna, though we’ll have to wait and see how and when the full rollout for the first collection will be debuted.
