One of The Swoosh's best collaborators in the last few years, sacai, has had multiple opportunities to rework classic silhouettes, such as the Nike Blazer, adding their signature double details that create an avant-garde look. It seems the two are going back in time and reworking another iconic Nike sneaker, this time with the sacai x Nike Cortez 4.0. Having already appeared in a Navy Grey colorway, Forest Gump's own "White Varsity Royal" is also getting the sacai treatment.
As all sacai and Nike collaborations do, details throughout the sneaker are doubled, including the laces, collar, tongue, and heel overlays. Standard details do remain, though are elevated through the lens of the Japanese label as the toebox and eyestays get a grey nappy suede makeover. This same material and collar land on the heel with a secondary blue suede sitting just below. Flat and rope laces combine and weave up to the top of the white tongue while a blue tongue and collar sit just behind. Another doubled detail appears on the lateral midfoot as the standard red leather Nike Swoosh has a grey partner placed off to its left. Co-branding details between sacai and Nike make their way to the tongue tags, insoles, and heel overlay with the two logos superimposed. Underfoot is a foam midsole with extra foam inserts in varying shades of white, cream, and blue, featuring a visible Air unit on the forefoot. Rounding off the design is the rubber outsole that gets a traditional white color scheme.
The sacai x Nike Cortez 4.0 White Varsity Royal is set to release on August 23rd, 2022 through select retailers online and in-store. sacai will release pairs via their website on August 30th while Nike SNKRS will have their release on August 31st.
