Australian designers Song For The Mute teamed up with adidas to release another chapter in their story, the adidas Country OG 004 Collection. The first two chapters highlighted the Shadowturf and Campus, 001 and 002, respectively, while the Country OG was set for 003. However, delays behind the scenes have seen chapter 004 begin with the launch of collaborative takes on the Adistar Cushion model. With anticipation for the new collection building, the postponed 003 Chapter has blended into the current 004 Chapter.
As a menswear brand founded in 2010 by Lyna Ty and Melvin Tanaya, they expanded in 2015 to include womenswear and began to spread their wings. Known for their deconstructed approach to design, the duo has gone on to have great success in recent years, developing an avid fanbase around the globe, leading to the collaboration with The Brand With The Three Stripes. Song For The Mute (SFTM) does not release seasonal collections but rather chapters that reflect a period of theirs. In particular, the cultural scenes in Paris and Tokyo influence the finished designs and products.
The latest from SFTM and adidas includes a three-shoe collection highlighting the Country OG 004. These pairs feature a material blend different from the SFTM Country OG sneakers released as a part of the 003 Collection earlier this year. These three all feature a pony hair base, with patent leather hits at the heels and toe. Suede is utilized for the lateral toe panels, which is an unusual sight as they are not a part of the original make-up of the Country OG. This design cue is from vintage and archival adidas, such as the Achill model.
More suede, vivid in color, appears along the midfoot in the form of Three Stripes branding. One pair arrives adorned in Bronze Strata, another is daubed in Maroon hues, and the final pair is enveloped in Core Black for a classic look. All three pairs come with a cream lace set, a two-tone rope finish, and a drawstring toggle. Dual-branded woven tags appear on the tongues of each sneaker, with further labels denoting SFTM-003 appearing on the lateral heel sections. On the medial side, a classic Trefoil logo appears. Underfoot, the midsoles of each pair feature two layers of EVA cushioned foam, with upper color-matching rubber outsoles applied for extra traction and grip.
The SFTM x adidas Country OG 004 Collection is set to release on November 15, 2024, via SFTM, adidas, and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, retail is set at $140.
